The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration selected Techno-Sciences to supply a ground station with phased array antenna technology to support the agency's global search-and-rescue satellite operations in Wahiawa, Hawaii, Military & Aerospace Electronics reported Monday.
Lanham, Maryland-based TSi will provide the Horizon Medium Earth Orbit Local User Terminal to help NOAA detect emergency distress signals from maritime vessels, personnel or aircraft platforms.
Horizon MEOLUT uses the company's proprietary methods to process 406 megahertz beacon data that orbiting satellites relay. The terminal's antenna tracking system employs a selective schedule algorithm to translate irregular data points.
TSi helped the agency built and install an operational MEOSAR platform a decade ago.
U.S., European and Russian GPS satellite fleets are equipped with search-and-rescue receivers, according to NOAA.
