Rolls-Royce and Reaction Engines have agreed to team up to build high-speed aircraft propulsion platforms and explore the use of Reaction Engines’ thermal management technologies in hybrid-electric systems and gas turbine engines for defense and civil aerospace platforms.
Rolls-Royce has also made an investment in Reaction Engines as part of its participation in a round of financing, Reaction Engines said Friday.
Mark Thomas, CEO of Reaction Engines, said the company looks forward to expanding its partnership with Rolls-Royce to commercialize a range of applications to improve the performance of aircraft engines, advance hypersonic and supersonic flight and achieve sustainable aviation through the use of novel technology platforms.
“We have been working closely with Reaction Engines for the past two years, including exploring the potential of high-Mach systems for defence applications, and I am delighted that we are able to strengthen that relationship,†said Mark Thompson, director of global strategy and business development at Rolls-Royce. “We will also explore the use of Reaction Engines’ technology within our aerospace gas turbines and its potential application in future hybrid-electric propulsion systems, as we look to make flying ever more efficient and sustainable.â€
