Gary Newgaard, vice president of public sector at Pure Storage, wrote in a GCN guest piece published Tuesday that government agencies should have the right infrastructure and a modern data experience to meet expanded telework requirements.
Newgaard discussed how a virtual desktop infrastructure could help agencies improve security, reduce costs and simplify management. “A VDI also allows agencies to become much more agile, gaining the ability to address users that work both at home and in the office with widely ranging compute requirements,†he wrote.
He cited the need for agencies to improve their data protection strategies amid rising ransomware attacks, emergence of new communication risks driven by the use of video platforms and security risks associated with new access points.
“In an environment of elevated security concerns, data protection features such as backup and restore are more critical than ever,†Newgaard said. “These features facilitate recovery in the event of a data loss or system failure.â€
He also mentioned the importance of having a modern data experience to agencies. “Success starts with the right foundation – a modern data experience that is defined by application programming interfaces and features easy, common management tools and proactive analytics that are actionable at scale,†Newgaard added.
