Puritan Medical Products has received a $75.5M contract to set up a new facility for boosted production of swabs in support of the nation’s medical needs.

Lt. Col. Mike Andrews, a Department of Defense spokesman, said in a statement published Wednesday that the investment would raise the monthly swab production rate to 40M swabs in line with Defense Production Act Title III that provides the funds.

The contractor will put up the new facility in Pittsfield, Maine, and open 150 new jobs for the new factory’s operations. Production work will commence in May.

“The increased production and long-term industrial capacity will help support the needs of the nation,” said Lt. Col. Andrews.

DPA Title III aims to address resource needs in line with national security and defense missions.
