The White House on Wednesday called on technology companies to help the government in its campaign against the new coronavirus, The Hill reported Wednesday.
“The White House’s top priority is ensuring the safety and health of the American people amid the COVID-19 outbreak," Michael Kratsios, U.S. chief technology officer and a 2020 Wash100 award winner, said during a phone call Wednesday. "Cutting edge technology companies and major online platforms will play a critical role in this all-hands-on-deck effort."
Some of the tech companies and trade groups that took part in the call are Apple, IBM, Google, Cisco, Microsoft, Facebook, Twitter, Information Technology Industry Council and the Consumer Technology Association. Representatives from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the departments of Education and Labor, National Institutes of Health and other federal agencies also participated in the meeting.
The meeting also touched upon the use of artificial intelligence to gather insights and assess data about COVID-19 and ways to counter conspiracy theories and other falsehoods spreading online.
