A team composed of Fincantieri Marinette Marine and Lockheed Martin will build surface combatant vessels for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under a delivery order of an undisclosed sum from the U.S. Navy.
Fincantieri said Friday it will construct four Multi-Mission Surface Combatant ships at a company facility in Wisconsin.
The award brings the cumulative value of Fincantieri’s original contract for the MMSC vessels to around $1.3B. Lockheed also secured a separate $1.95B contract modification in December to carry out materials and data environment integration efforts for the ships.
Based on the capabilities of Freedom-class ships, MMSC vessels work to reach a distance of 5K nautical miles and conduct shallow water and open ocean missions.
