SolAero Technologies has received a subcontract to help Maxar Technologies power NASA’s future Gateway lunar orbit space station, which will support missions to the Moon and Mars. In a company statement published Tuesday, SolAero said it will design and produce solar power modules that will generate 70 kilowatts of energy for the station’s power and propulsion element.

The company will use its quadruple-junction Z4J solar cells to boost the SPMs’ radiation hardness in space. Manufacturing activities will employ automated assembly and take place in Albuquerque, N.M.

“SolAero has had the honor of participating in over 30 NASA missions in our 20 year history and we’re once again very proud to have the opportunity to support NASA on a trailblazing endeavor,” said Brad Clevenger, president and CEO at SolAero.
