Raytheon’s air soldier team is working with Pivotal Software and using DevOps and Agile processes to speed up the development of military software at the company’s Indianapolis-based facility.

The use of such techniques allows Raytheon to prioritize interactions and people as well as facilitate communication among teams and collaboration with customers, the company said Wednesday.

“This is a huge change,” Todd Probert, vice president for C2, space and intelligence at Raytheon’s intelligence, information and services, said of the processes.

“In just a couple years, we’ve transitioned from following the old model of developing custom-built tools to developing the infrastructure and software that will allow any soldier to download apps onto a smartphone, carry it with them onto the helicopter, and then share critical, real-time planning and tracking data with everyone else onboard,” Probert added.
