Raytheon has handed over to the U.S. Navy an airborne electronic attack weapon system that is slated for ground tests and integration onto the EA-18G Growler aircraft.
The Next Generation Jammer Mid-Band Engineering and Manufacturing Development pod works to repel and disrupt communication systems and threat radars to shield aircraft units, the company said Monday. In addition, the pod can intercept multiple targets, jam frequencies and function at an expanded range.
“Delivery of this pod will allow for the initial verification of ground procedures, mass properties, aircraft installation, and Built In Test checks in preparation for future chamber and flight test,†said Stefan Baur, vice president at Raytheon’s electronic warfare systems business.
Raytheon is slated to deliver 14 aeromechanical pods for airworthiness accreditation tests and 15 EMD pods for system evaluation and qualification. The firm will also install a Prime Power Generation Capability pod onto a Gulfstream Aerospace-built aircraft to demonstrate power generation flights.
