John Swift, a program director at BAE Systems, has said the company is likely to deliver the first batch of new amphibious combat vehicles for the U.S. Marine Corps in the summer, Marine Corps Times reported Friday.
Swift added that BAE aims to complete delivery of 30 lot 1 ACVs by the end of this year and another 30 lot 2 units in 2020.
The service branch’s 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion stationed at Camp Pendleton, Calif., will receive the initial vehicles.
BAE and its partner Iveco Defence Vehicles will produce the ACVs under a $1.2B initial contract awarded in June of last year. The team received a follow-on contract last month for the second batch.
ACV is designed to transport and protect troops on all forms of terrain in the battlefield.
