Raytheon has won a potential $16.6M contract from the U.S. Air Force to develop combat identification technologies.
The company will focus on radar-based ID sensors designed to help reconnaissance and tactical aircraft identify ground and aerial targets under the Precision Real-Time Engagement Combat Identification Sensor Exploitation program, the Department of Defense said Wednesday.
Tasks under the PRECISE program include technical assessments; systems engineering development; software modifications and hardware prototyping; laboratory and flight demonstrations; performance simulations; and system integration.
The program could also explore other sensor systems such as infrared, electro-optical and hyper- and multispectral sensing platforms.
The Air Force Research Laboratory received three bids for the cost-plus-fixed-fee contract and will obligate $100K in fiscal 2018 research, development, test and evaluation funds at the time of award.
Work will take place in El Segundo, Calif., through March 27, 2024.
