A joint venture of Fluor and Walsh Construction Co. has received a contact to deisgn and build railway infrastructure under the first phase of the Chicago Transit Authority’s $2.1B Red and Purple Line Modernization Program.
The project is scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2019 and be completed by early 2025, Fluor said Wednesday.
The industry team — which also includes Stantec Consulting Services — will construct elevated tracks covering a 1.9-mile section of the state and a grade-separated bypass for the Clark Junction’s brown line, as well as modernize a system that will deliver signals across an area of 3.2 miles.
Contractors will also build a grade-separated bypass for the Clark Junction’s brown line.
In a separate announcement, CTA said it chose the Walsh-Fluor JV after an 18-month bid process based on the partnership’s proposal that included $297M in project savings compared with other offers.
The agency and contractors intent to hold public meetings beginning next year and work with stakeholders to address potential impacts of the construction project on local services and neighborhoods.
