Intel, IBM, Oracle and Raytheon have expressed interest in joining a potential competition to provide the Defense Department with artificial intelligence technologies that would support the U.S. military, Nextgov reported Wednesday.
The four companies are among 42 businesses that hope to join an AI demonstration event hosted by the Army Research Lab, DoD’s Joint Artificial Intelligence Center and the Project Maven team this month, according to the U.S. Army via a FedBizOpps notice.
DoD is seeking industry partners that can help organize and standardize military data and provide the tools and infrastructure to build and test new AI algorithms.
The military currently uses AI for predictive maintenance, translation, drone footage analysis and threat alleviation.
Google, Microsoft and Amazon are not participating in DoD’s upcoming demonstration event in Maryland, the report said.
