The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has released the results of a Concurrent Technologies Corp.-led project aiming to develop a system that would monitor the structural health of steel truss bridges.
The company said Monday its structural health monitoring system has received the U.S. Army‘s recommendation for use with bridges significant to the operations of the Defense Department.
The system uses various sensors and monitoring tools to remotely gather data on a bridge’s health status and generate warnings on potential structural issues.
The Office of the Secretary of Defense and USACE’s Engineer Research and Development Center funded the project via the DoD Corrosion Prevention Control Program.
O’Donnell Consulting Engineers and Chandler Monitoring Systems were CTC’s partners in the effort.
