At least 2.5K public safety-related agencies across the U.S. have subscribed to a national public safety broadband network established by AT&T and the First Responder Network Authority through a public-private partnership.
AT&T said Wednesday the figure reflects a twofold increase in the number of agencies that have adopted FirstNet since July.
The company said over 150K connections have been established through FirstNet to help first responders facilitate data sharing and communications in remote areas and build up situational awareness capabilities in order to respond to wildfires and other emergencies.
The FirstNet broadband network is designed to improve connectivity and coverage through the Band 14 spectrum; provide pre-emption across data and voice; prevent throttling issues; and offer access to public safety-certified applications and devices.
