Northrop Grumman has opened a facility in Ventura County, Calif., for the company’s Astro Aerospace business to produce satellite structures and other space-based hardware.
The unit will use the 140,000-square-foot center located in Oxnard to build deployable technology such as boom and mast subsystems, mesh reflectors, solar arrays, antennas and planar systems, Northrop said Friday.
Rep. Julia Brownley, D-Calif., said she expects the company’s new facility to create as many as 300 positions and contribute to the local economy.
“This new building allows us to better serve our customers and their missions, and demonstrates the company’s continued commitment to a strong presence in southern California,†said Chris Yamada, vice president and general manager of aerospace products at Northrop.
Astro Aerospace marks its 60th anniversary this year and aims to sustain operations to address growing customer demand.
