Raytheon CEO Thomas Kennedy, a two-time Wash100 recipient, has said the company intends to make the Naval Strike Missile program a “multibillion-dollar franchise opportunity†by replacing the current international and local inventory of surface-to-surface missiles, Defense News reported Thursday.
NSM is a joint effort of Raytheon and Norway-based Kongsberg and is an anti-ship missile that has target detection functions and works to hit targets at a distance of at least 100 nautical miles.
The U.S. Navy selected the team of Raytheon and Kongsberg in June to build the NSM system for over-the-horizon defense operations aboard the service’s frigates and littoral combat ships.
