Siemens Donates $246M Software Grant to Florida Institute of Technology

Siemens has provided an in-kind software grant worth more than $246 million to the Florida Institute of Technology to help students prepare for science, technology engineering and math careers.

Florida Tech said Thursday it will incorporate Siemens’ product lifecycle management platform into students’ coursework and projects related to computer-aided design, engineering simulation, industrial design, digital manufacturing and manufacturing management.

The university’s College of Engineering and Computing and College of Science will also implement the PLM software in senior design projects.

“Software is at the core of an ongoing digital transformation that is changing the way our customers approach the manufacturing process, from design to production into service,” said Tony Hemmelgarn, president and CEO of Siemens’ PLM software business.

Hemmelgarn added the company aims to help develop students’ STEM skills by providing them access to software and hardware for hands-on training programs.

A team of Northrop Grumman engineers also offered to mentor students at the university, Florida Tech noted.
