Eric Barton, former lead architect of Intel‘s high performance data division, has joined DataDirect Networks as chief technology officer of its software-defined storage portfolio.
DDN said Wednesday his new role entails oversight of strategic roadmap, technology architecture and product design for the company’s newly formed Infinite Memory Engine business unit.
“Barton is a visionary with a proven track record and deep understanding of data-intensive computing and complex distributed storage systems,” said Alex Bouzari, DDN CEO, chairman and co-founder.
Barton noted he will support DDN’s efforts to build a family of elastic, non-volatile memory-based storage products and market those technologies to the cloud market.
He has more than 30 years of networking, distributed systems and storage software experience.
At Intel, Barton created storage architectures using object storage, NVMe, distributed file systems, multi-core processors and 3D XPoint.
Barton co-founded and served as CTO of high performance computing company Whamcloud, which Intel acquired in 2012, and worked as lead engineer of Oracle‘s Lustre engineering group.
