Loren DeJonge Schulman, formerly senior adviser to National Security Adviser Susan Rice, has been appointed as a Leon E. Panetta senior fellow and deputy director of studies of the Center for a New American Security.
Schulman will oversee the center’s effort to produce policy research and develop her own national security and defense strategy and reform studies, CNAS said Monday.
“Her deep knowledge and high standards will push the work we produce and the recommendations we make to ever greater heights,†said Michele Flournoy, CNAS co-founder and CEO.
Schulman previously served as chief of staff to the defense assistant secretary for international security affairs before she moved into an advisory role for Rice.
She was also the director for defense policy on the National Security Council staff between 2011 and 2012 after she served as a special assistant to former Defense Secretary Robert Gates.
Schulman is affiliated with Stanford University’s Center for International Security and Cooperation.
