John Custer serves as director of federal strategic missions and programs at EMC Corp., where he is responsible for strategy, business development and program execution work for the company’s federal business division.
The retired U.S. Army major general holds three decades of government experience in intelligence, secure communications architectures, information technology and surveillance operations.
Prior to EMC, Custer served as commanding general of the U.S. Army Intelligence Center and School and spent the four years before that as director of intelligence for Central Command, where he supervised intelligence operations in 27 Middle Eastern countries.
In addition, he worked as a space architectures planner for the Joint Chiefs of Staff and nuclear weapons targeting officer aboard the Supreme Allied Commander Europe’s airborne command post.
Custer holds master’s degrees in national security studies from the National War College and in strategic intelligence from the National Defense Intelligence College, as well as a bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware.
