northrop-Grumman_BLUENorthrop Grumman has inked a three-year cooperative agreement with the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks to provide pilot training for unmanned aircraft systems through the SandShark trainer technology.

The company said Tuesday it will contribute two SandShark aircraft and one ground station to the university’s flight training program for international students.

SandShark operators utilize commercial broadband Internet or 4G cellular networks to remotely pilot the UAS trainer.

“We are committed to working with the university to build and strengthen a diverse STEM workforce and we are proud to provide key technology that enables expansion of their training pursuits,” said Bob Gamache, director of special mission systems at Northrop Grumman Technical Services.

Through the partnership, Northrop also aims to facilitate science, technology, engineering, mathematics and aviation career development programs and employment opportunities.
