A bridge in Vietnam designed by Louis Berger and Ammann & Whitney has won the best project award in the bridges/tunnel category for Engineering News-Record’s 2014 Global Best Project Awards.
The companies designed the 666-meter Dragon Bridge in Da Nang, Vietnam in the image of a dragon flying across the Han River, Louis Berger announced Wednesday.
The Dragon Bridge was opened on March 29, 2013 and has become a tourist attraction in the area due its weekend fire-and-water-breathing shows, Louis Berger said.
“Louis Berger and Ammann & Whitney set out to deliver a bold yet elegant design that would be culturally significant for the city of Da Nang – the result was a fire-breathing dragon,” said Nick Ivanoff, Amman & Whitney president and CEO.
“We are extremely proud that this bridge has become a major tourist attraction in the city of Da Nang and has spurred economic growth in the region.”
ENR uses a project’s constructions safety, global community contribution, engineering innovation, aesthetic merit and a project team’s global diversity as criteria to evaluate award nominees.
