General Dynamics‘ Bath Iron Works subsidiary has completed builder’s trials on an Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer for the U.S. Navy.
The future USS Thomas Hudner (DDG 61) completed in-port and at-sea tests required to evaluate the vessel’s systems and delivery readiness, the Naval Sea Systems Command said Monday.
Arleigh Burke-class warships are designed to incorporate the Aegis Baseline 9 Integrated Air and Missile Defense system that works to increase computing capacity along with updated radars built to detect air warfare and ballistic missile defense threats.
NAVSEA noted the Aegis Combat System, produced by Lockheed Martin, will connect DDG 61 radars with other ships and aircraft.
The Navy’s Board of Inspection and Survey is scheduled to conduct acceptance trials at sea later this spring before the service branch accepts delivery of the new destroyer.
