Unisys has secured a potential $35 million contract to develop a new biometric matching technology for the Australian Department of Home Affairs to screen travelers throughout its border clearance process.
The company said Monday its Australian arm will help the department implement the Enterprise Biometric Identification Services system to replace the legacy platform that Unisys built and has supported over the past 12 years.
EBIS will be based on the company’s Stealth(identity) multifactor identity management and authentication technology that supports face, finger, iris and voice recognition functions.
The company added it will equip the system with an analytics tool designed to process data feeds from Stealth and perform simulations.
Stealth is built to process more than 100,000 transactions a day and 100 million records from multiple devices.
IDEMIA will provide the algorithm for EBIS’ fingerprint and facial biometric matching function.
The Australian Department of Home Affairs will field the new system to match a traveler’s face image and fingerprint against its biometric watch list and process documents of legitimate travelers.
