Leonardo has awarded CAE a potential $115 million subcontract to build a comprehensive NH90 helicopter training system for Qatar’s air force.
CAE said Thursday it will build a facility with simulators and devices to train future Qatari pilots, aircrew and maintenance technicians of NH90 tactical transport and NH90 NATO frigate helicopters.
The training center will feature CAE 3000 Series full-mission simulator and Simfinity integrated procedures trainers for the TTH and NFH configurations and an NFH rear-crew trainer built with a full-mission simulator networking function.
CAE will added it will equip the facility with a winch door gunner trainer and virtual maintenance training system classroom, as well as built a tactical control center to manage networked mission training exercises.
The company expects to commence support services after it completes the helicopter training system for Qatar’s air force sometime in 2021.
NHIndustries — a consortium of Leonardo, Airbus and Fokker — manages the NH90 helicopter program.
Qatar’s air force ordered 28 NH90 units through a contract signed with Leonardo at the Doha International Maritime Defense Exhibition and Conference.
