IBM’s Sam Gordy: Federal Govt Should Consider Cognitive Intell, Analytics to Process Unstructured Data

Sam Gordy, general manager of IBM’s federal business, has said that federal government leaders should work to target artificial intelligence components such as advanced analytics and cognitive intelligence that work to help facilitate analysis of real-time data.

“Cognitive intelligence and advanced analytics have the ability to mine unstructured data,” Gordy told MeriTalk in an interview published Tuesday.

He said that IBM works to help the federal government transition into a “cognitive enterprise” through AI, Kate DeNardi wrote.

“The goal of machine learning and AI, from our perspective, is to help the human work better and more efficiently,” he added.

Gordy, an inductee into Executive Mosaic’s Wash100 for 2017, said he expects the Trump administration, particularly the newly created White House Office of American Innovation, to advance AI efforts and speed up the acquisition process for cyber platforms.

He also cited IBM’s partnership with the Census Bureau and the planned deployment of the company’s Watson cognitive platform for the 2020 Census.
