Safran‘s electronics and defense business has been selected to design and build a new global navigation system for integration into the Triomphant-class ballistic missile nuclear submarines of the French navy.
The company said Monday it will use feedback from the fleet’s current laser gyro-based navigation systems and other new technologies to develop a new submarine navigation system for France.
Safran has produced inertial navigation systems for more than 500 surface ships worldwide as well as for nuclear and conventional submarines.
Several modern front-line units such as France’s Barracuda-class nuclear attack submarines are equipped with Safran’s navigation technology, the company added.
