The U.S. Navy has commissioned and assigned to active service its seventh littoral combat ship overall and fourth LCS vessel constructed by a Lockheed Martin-led industry team.
Lockheed said Saturday the USS Detroit Freedom-class LCS will join the fleet with similar variants USS Fort Worth, USS Milwaukee and USS Freedom.
USS Detroit completed its acceptance trials in July and is the fourth Freedom-variant LCS delivered by Lockheed’s team to the Navy.
Fincantieri Marinette Marine, Gibbs & Cox and more than 500 suppliers across 37 states work with Lockheed to construct the ships.
The team is currently constructing six LCS vessels at the FMM shipyard with three more in long-lead material procurement.
