The South Australian government looks to establish a defense technology center dedicated to integrating and supporting land combat systems for Australia’s military, the Lead South Australia reported Tuesday.
Jim Plouffe writes Jay Weatherill, premier of South Australia state, said the proposed Land Integration and Innovation Center will be built at Edinburgh Parks and will use an agile approach to address system security challenges.
“It will provide a place where defense and industry can increase collaboration and innovation,” Weatherill added, according to the report.
The report said South Australia’s commitment to support land combat systems came after BAE Systems and Rheinmetall Land Systems were chosen as preferred bidders for the second phase of the Australian army’s fighting vehicle program.
BAE’s Australian arm partnered with Patria to support a one-year risk mitigation effort under the LAND 400 Phase 2 program.
