A joint venture of Ultra Electronics Holdings and Sparton has secured $19.2 million in contracts to manufacture underwater acoustics technology for multiple foreign customers.
The ERAPSCO/SonobuoyTech Systems JV will distribute contract funds to the Ultra Electronics USSI and Sparton De Leon Springs business units for the production of active and passive sonabuoys, Sparton said Monday.
Sonobuoys are designed to detect, classify and localize adversary submarines during tactical and peacetime operations.
Work will take place at Sparton’s facility in De Leon Springs, Florida,  and Ultra Electronics USSI’s facility in Columbia City, Indiana.
Sparton provides electromechanical device design, manufacturing and refurbishment services in the medical, biotechnology, military and aerospace and industrial markets.
Ultra Electronics offers electronic and software technologies and services to the defense, aerospace, security, cyber, transport and energy sectors.
