The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has kicked off a project to explore new algorithms and protocols for physically dispersed computing infrastructure, Military & Aerospace Electronics reported Monday.
According to the report by John Keller, DARPA aims to increase the performance of the U.S. military’s dispersed computing applications and networks through the Dispersed Computing initiative.
Keller writes the program will work to schedule the use of computing assets across various platforms through scalable decision systems designed to function even under conditions of variable and reduced network connectivity.
The Dispersed Computing project seeks algorithms for dispersed mission-aware computation, programmable nodes and protocol stacks and technology integration, according to Keller.
DARPA is scheduled to hold a webcast Thursday to brief interested vendors on the project and will accept research proposals through Sept. 7.
