BAE Systems and IBC Advanced Alloys have signed a joint development agreement to produce components based on the latter company’s beryllium-aluminum alloys.
IBC said Wednesday it will initially develop prototype components to demonstrate the characteristics of Beralcast casted products for specific applications at BAE under the deal.
David Heinz, IBC president and CEO, said the partnership supports the company’s efforts to introduce its Beralcast technology to the global aerospace market.
IBC added it offered Beralcast to another aerospace and defense company for potential use in the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program.
The Beralcast suite of beryllium-aluminum alloys is designed to also serve as an alternative for aluminum, magnesium, titanium, metal matrix composites, pure beryllium or powder metallurgy beryllium-aluminum materials used in aerospace, defense and precision manufacturing processes.
