Aerojet Rocketdyne has transported a new batch of booster motors and Divert and Attitude Control Systems to the Missile Defense Agency for the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system.
The company said Thursday it delivered the 300th booster motor and the DACS propulsion system to MDA through THAAD builder Lockheed Martin.
The booster motor technology works to power the THAAD interceptor and DACS to position the interceptor to engage an incoming ballistic missile.
“Aerojet Rocketdyne has worked with our prime customer Lockheed Martin to establish the capacity to produce the rate necessary to meet the growing demand for the THAAD missile,” said Eileen Drake, CEO and president of Aerojet Rocketdyne.
THAAD is the land-based element of the U.S.’ Ballistic Missile Defense System designed to help protect the military, allied forces, critical infrastructure and citizens from ballistic missile threats.
The system comprises launchers, interceptors, radar, THAAD fire control and communication units and THAAD support equipment.
