infraredLGS Innovations has won a four-year, $11.2 million contract to build infrared-based technology for the U.S. Air Force to detect trace chemicals from diverse surfaces.

The Defense Department said Tuesday that LGS aims to help the Air Force develop a standoff sensor equipped with an active IR spectroscopy technology for the detection and identification of chemical residues at a range of up to 30 meters.

The company’s applied research and technology division will perform contract work in Florham Park, New Jersey, through Oct. 26, 2020.

The Air Force Research Laboratory received 17 offers for the acquisition program and is obligating $1.8 million in fiscal 2015 research, development, test and evaluation funds.
