Harris Corp. has been selected to overhaul the fixed-wing electronic self-protection units installed in the U.S. Air Force’s B-52 bomber and C-130 aircraft in an effort to defend against radio-frequency threats.
The Air Force will continue to maintain the use of AN/ALQ-172 electronic warfare system on the B-52 aircraft for RFÂ self-protection through the late 2040s, Harris said Wednesday.
Rich Sorelle, president of Harris electronic warfare systems, said the firm has deployed its EW technology to protect the B-52 for more than 35 years.
Robins Air Force Base awarded the unit orders to Harris.
