Orbital ATK to Produce Sidewinder Rocket Motor for US Air Force; Pat Nolan Comments

The U.S. Air Force has selected Orbital ATK to produce rocket motors for the service branch’s Sidewinder missile systems.

Orbital ATK will carry out an acceptance test on the AIM-9P Sidewinder rocket motor and build batches of the motor for foreign military sales customers, the company said Monday.

Pat Nolan, vice president and general manager of Orbital ATK’s missile products division within the defense systems group, said the company intends for the contract to help customers “extend the life of their existing missiles with new motors and components.”

The company’s SR116-HP-1 rocket motor supplies power to the AIM-9P Sidewinder missile.
