Orbital ATK has received a five-year contract from a subsidiary of MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates to produce and supply flight sets of titanium propellant tanks for integration with a commercial communications satellite.
Orbital ATK’s space components division in California will manufacture flight sets comprised of two liquid propellant tanks for Space Systems/Loral’s SSL 1300 satellites, Orbital ATK said Thursday.
The SSL 1300 satellite works to provide broadband Internet, video content, direct-to-home television and mobile communications services.
Dave Shanahan, vice president and general manager of Orbital ATK’s space components division, said the company has delivered more than 110 flight sets of propellant tanks for the SSL 1300 satellite for more than 20 years.
Each propellant tank has a PMD Technologies-designed Propellant Management Device that works to control the fluid during operations.
