Iridium Communications has completed a voice and data ground test call for the company’s Certus broadband network in an effort to demonstrate the performance of three new components.
The test was meant for Iridium Certus’ broadband satellite terminal, Iridium NEXT satellites and updated terrestrial gateway systems, Iridium said Tuesday.
Iridium’s Certus broadband core module produced the call that was processed through an Iridium NEXT satellite and terminated through the Iridium Certus gateway subsystem.
Brian Pemberton, vice president and general manager for maritime and aviation businesses at Iridium, said the company’s manufacturing partners will offer satellite broadband to aeronautical, maritime and land mobile clients through the new BCX module.
Iridium Certus is under development and will be added to the Iridium NEXT satellite constellation.
