General Dynamics has unveiled the first ECO tanker for American Petroleum Tankers during a christening ceremony at a shipyard in San Diego.
The 50,000-deadweight ton Lone Star State tanker is under construction and will feature a ballast water treatment system, General Dynamics said Monday.
“Incorporating new and innovative green ship technology, these tankers are the future of American petroleum shipping,” said Kevin Graney, a general manager and vice president for General Dynamics’ NASSCO subsidiary.
NASSCO is contracted to produce five LNG-conversion-ready product carriers for APT.
DSEC, a subsidiary of South Korea-based Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, is responsible for the tanker’s design.
