BAE Systems has built a prototype system to transmit audio communications to soldiers on the battlefield.
The company developed the system through modifications of bone conduction technology in order to send messages from the warfighter’s helmet to the inner ear, BAE said Tuesday.
“With this system, the soldiers can safeguard their hearing with ear protectors whilst still clearly receiving military voice communications, to enable them to perform their roles efficiently and safely,†said Mohammed Akhmad, principal scientist at BAE Systems.
The project is part of BAE’s research initiative meant to leverage wearable technology in an effort to minimize the burden on dismounted soldiers, the company says.
