The Missile Defense Agency has worked with U.S. Pacific Command and the U.S. Navy to conduct four tests on the interception functions of the Lockheed Martin-developed Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense system and Raytheon missiles.
MDA said Monday the Multi-Mission Warfare flight test events featured the Aegis Baseline 9.C1 weapon system configuration and the Standard Missile-6 Dual I and Standard Missile-2 Block IV missiles launched from USS John Paul Jones.
The team held the tests at the Pacific Missile Range Facility in Hawaii.
According to MDA, the MMW events used either short-range ballistic missiles or cruise missiles as targets that the Aegis system detected, tracked and intercepted using SM-6 and SM-2 missiles.
Lockheed said its Aegis BMD Combat System is equipped with the SPY-1 phased array radar and the Multi-Mission Signal Processor.
Baseline 9.C1 includes the BMD 5.0 CU programming and combines ballistic missile defense and anti-air warfare functions, the company added.
Raytheon said the SM-6 Dual 1 modification will reach initial operating capability next year.
