Sigma Defense company Solute has secured a contract to support the U.S. Navy’s Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services, or CANES, program. The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract award has a one-year base period worth $41.4 million and two option periods of two years each, for a maximum $102.5 million potential value if all options are exercised, the Department of Defense said Friday.
What CANES Is About
The Navy initiated the CANES program to enhance and consolidate its five shipboard legacy networks into a common computing environment for over 40 command, control, intelligence and logistics applications.
Under the contract, the San Diego-based company will provide technical and programming services to the Navy networks’ infrastructure, communications and computer systems. Solute will also work to ensure certification and validated information for current systems, future upgrades and advanced developments.
Diverse Work Locations
Solute’s contract work will be mainly at San Diego, California, with some in continental and non-continental U.S. locations, as well as in Manama, Bahrain, and Naples, Italy. Work completion is expected in May 2032.
Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific, San Diego, California, is the contracting activity of the competitive Navy CANES procurement that received two offers. No funding will be issued at the time of the award, and Navy funds will instead be obligated upon each task order’s issuance. The Navy allocations to be tapped include other procurement, operations and maintenance, research, development, test and evaluation, shipbuilding construction, and working capital funds.
Acquired by Sigma Defense in January 2022, Solute holds other current Navy contracts, including a potential five-year $59.3 million contract to develop autonomous systems for the Autonomy Baseline Manager awarded in February 2024.
