Rocket Lab has secured a contract from the Air Force Research Laboratory to launch its medium-lift, reusable Neutron rocket to support the Rocket Experimentation for Global Agile Logistics program, a Department of Defense initiative that aims to develop a space-based system for rapid global cargo delivery.
Mission Overview
The company said Thursday that the Neutron spacecraft will demonstrate cargo survivability and atmospheric re-entry as part of efforts to develop a point-to-point delivery capability. The demonstration is scheduled no earlier than 2026.
About Neutron
Capable of carrying up to 13,000 kilograms to low Earth orbit, Neutron is designed for a range of missions including satellite constellation deployments, defense payloads and scientific research.
Rocket Lab is nearing completion of Neutron’s launch pad at Wallops Island, Virginia, and continues testing engines and components across its U.S. facilities. The rocket’s inaugural flight is set for the second half of 2025.
