Space systems provider Muon Space has received a contract from the National Reconnaissance Office to support the agency’s efforts to develop commercial electro-optical capabilities.
Awarded under the NRO’s Strategic Commercial Enhancements Broad Agency Announcement Framework, the Stage II contract will continue to explore the potential of multispectral electro-optical and infrared, or EO/IR, data with global coverage and rapid revisit rates, Muon Space said Friday. Under the agreement, the company will also demonstrate its EO/IR capabilities and advance the office’s testing and evaluation projects.

Supporting National Security Missions
The new award highlights “growing confidence in our ability to deliver timely, high-quality data from space,” according to Muon Space CEO Jonny Dyer. “We are honored to deepen our collaboration with the NRO and to demonstrate how commercial space can play a transformative role in the future of national intelligence and global response,” he added.
Enhancing Resilience, Operational Awareness and Decision-Making
Through the NRO partnership, Muon Space will showcase how its Muon Halo platform will support intelligence, defense and national security missions with various mission applications, including infrared satellite sensing, disaster response and strategic early warning. The company will demonstrate how commercial systems can be configured to improve resilience, operational awareness and decision-making across domains.
In December 2023, Muon Space was among the five companies selected to provide commercial electro-optical capabilities to the NRO under the Electro-Optical Commercial Layer program established in 2022.
