mPower Secures Investment to Advance Solar Power Tech for Space - top government contractors - best government contracting event

mPower Technology has received over $21 million in funding to accelerate the advancement and boost high-volume production of its DragonSCALES technology for future space missions.

The company said Thursday the Series B funding was spearheaded by Razor’s Edge Ventures, with participation from Shield Capital. It follows the Cottonwood Technology-led Series A financing.

Enhancing mPower’s Capabilities

The strategic investment aims to help mPower meet the needs of the rapidly evolving commercial and national security space markets, particularly the demand for its DragonSCALES, a flexible, interconnected mesh of miniature solar cells.

The company will leverage its 12 years of combined on-orbit space heritage and a new business pipeline to enhance its capabilities to provide technologies to power the next generation of space missions. The company will start high-volume production of its technology in June. It aims to build solar modules for hundreds of spacecraft, including over 1.1 megawatts of solar modules for Airbus’ MDA AURORA program.

Industry Leaders Recognize mPower’s Solar Power Technology

Airbus, Blue Origin/Honeybee, Firefly Aerospace, Lynk Global, Gravitics and other industry leaders have selected mPower for their solar power needs. To meet increasing demand, the company will utilize its high-volume automated manufacturing line at the Universal Instruments facility in Conklin, New York. It will manufacture over 2 megawatts of DragonSCALES modules a year, surpassing the total output produced by traditional gallium arsenide solar module suppliers worldwide.

“mPower has emerged as the only solar provider in the space market with a flight-proven design that can meet both the aggressive cost targets and production volumes required by large-scale Space 2.0 missions, such as LEO constellations,” said Kevin Hell, president and CEO of mPower Technology.
