V2X has secured a $62 million contract modification for support services to ensure the operational readiness of the U.S. Space Force’s COBRA DANE radar system in Alaska.
The agreement will deliver capability enhancements and engineering support for COBRA DANE, V2X said Tuesday. The company will perform critical work to extend the radar system’s capabilities, advancing the USSF’s mission of providing space domain awareness and missile defense.
Ensuring Radar System’s Mission Readiness
According to V2X, the award will provide full-spectrum mission capabilities to guarantee that COBRA DANE is always mission-ready. Under the deal, the company will continue its partnership with the USSF until March 2027.
Collecting Missile and Space Surveillance Data
COBRA DANE is a critical component of the U.S. defense architecture. It detects objects up to 2,000 miles away, supports space domain awareness and characterizes satellites and debris in Earth’s orbit. The USSF uses the system to collect radar metric and signature data on foreign ballistic missile events and gather space surveillance data on foreign launches of known and unknown satellites in low Earth orbit.
