Northrop Grumman has inaugurated its new integration center in Madison, Alabama, to help the U.S. Army in fast-tracking its air and missile defense modernization initiative.
Enhanced Production and Integration Center
The global aerospace and defense technology company said Monday the Enhanced Production and Integration Center, or EPIC, is intended to expand and accelerate the production of critical technologies needed for the enhancement of air and missile defense capabilities.
The new center is meant to facilitate innovation through technological integration and digital advancements. The expansion also aligns with Northrop Grumman’s fully digital strategy, optimizing the design and build process.
The EPIC center comes with 175,500 square feet of covered production area, including over 129,500 square feet of flexible production area. It also has 35,000 square feet of office space that can accommodate hundreds of personnel. The expected employment surge is anticipated to contribute to Alabama’s economic growth.
Integrated Battle Command System
By doubling the size of the previous facility, Northrop Grumman expands its manufacturing capabilities. This includes production capacity for the Integrated Battle Command System, an advanced command and control system designed to unify existing and future systems and enhance warfighters’ decision-making. With the expanded facility, production capacity can potentially reach up to 96 Engagement Operation Centers, 96 Integrated Collaborative Environments and 192 Integrated Fire Control Network relays annually. EPIC will also play a crucial role in managing component integration for the IBCS.
Kenn Todorov, sector vice president and general manager at Northrop Grumman, stated, “Our investment in American manufacturing with this new facility enables us to continue supporting critical modernization efforts such as producing capabilities like IBCS at scale and speed.”
