Northrop Grumman has appointed Douglas Shaffer as vice president of the marine systems, bringing over two decades of engineering and management expertise to the post.
Shaffer announced his new role in a LinkedIn post. He will lead efforts to develop and deliver advanced submarine and aircraft carrier propulsion, power generation and missile launching systems to the U.S. Navy. His responsibilities include providing lifecycle support for the naval fleet’s critical capabilities.
Douglas Shaffer’s Career Highlights
Prior to the promotion, Shaffer was VP of autonomous intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and targeting programs for the global surveillance division at Northrop, where he spearheaded projects to deliver unmanned aircraft and space systems critical to U.S. national security. Shaffer also served as VP and manager of the program that produced the MQ-4C Triton unmanned aircraft system, which supports U.S. Navy missions, including maritime ISR patrol, signals intelligence, search and rescue, and communications relay.
Shaffer has worked with Northrop for more than 23 years, first joining the organization as director of program integration and systems engineering in October 2001. He earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Penn State University.
