Wendy Masiello Elected KBR Lead Independent Director - top government contractors - best government contracting event

Retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Wendy Masiello, a two-time Wash100 Award winner, has been appointed lead independent director of KBR‘s board of directors.

The aerospace and defense contractor said Monday that Masiello was elected by the company’s independent directors. She will officially assume the role during the annual stockholders’ meeting in May.

Who Is Lt. Gen. Wendy Masiello?

Masiello is a retired three-star general who served in the Air Force for 36 years. The independent consultant has been a member of KBR’s board of directors since August 2017. She currently serves as the chair of the cybersecurity committee.

Before retiring from the Air Force, Masiello was the director of the Defense Contract Management Agency and deputy assistant secretary of contracting for the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition. As the service branch’s program executive officer, Masiello oversaw its $65 billion service acquisition portfolio.

She also served as the principal contracting officer for surveillance and reconnaissance systems, weapon systems and test ranges. Other critical positions Masiello held include executive director for the National Reconnaissance Office Inspector General, deputy director of plans and programs and director of contracting. Masiello also commanded an air base wing and served as principal assistant for contracting forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. 

The KBR director serves as an independent board director for StandardAero, EURPAC Service and Tlingit Haida Tribal Business. She is also an advisor for the Department of Defense’s Acquisition Innovation and Research Center Advisory Panel and the Air Force Studies Board of the National Academy of Sciences.

Retired U.S. Air Force Gen. Lester Lyles, KBR chair, said, “The appointment of Lt. Gen. Masiello as lead independent director reflects a thorough and thoughtful process by the board, who strongly believe that her leadership capabilities, deep operations experience and accomplished government career make her highly qualified to serve in this important role.”
